Rodney Crowell

Last night, Nathan and I headed to Denver to see Rodney Crowell in concert. It was a last-minute decision (Thursday night) to squeeze this huge event into an already jam-packed weekend, but we were so glad we did it!

The concert was amazing. Rodney Crowell played at the Walnut Room, which is a small venue. There were people sitting in rows of chairs at the front, people perched at high bar tables behind them and the rest of us stood in the back. Crowell played with guitarist and singer Jedd Hughes and violinist, singer, and mandolin player Jenny Scheinman. They were both spectacular singers and musicians and Rodney Crowell was amazing, too! In between songs, he shared some stories, including one about the time he first met Johnny Cash. (He was dating Roseanne Cash at the time and they would later be married and then divorced.) The venue was full, but not crowded and the room was warm, but not hot. It was a comfortable atmosphere- one of the best I've been to for a concert like this!

The most exciting part of the evening came at the end when Rodney Crowell mingled with the crowd. Nathan and I met him and he signed his most recent CD (Sex and Gasoline) for Nathan, which I had purchased for him as an anniversary present a few weeks ago. Nathan was a little star struck!

The whole ride home from Denver, Nathan drove the car with his left hand and clutched the signed CD in his right, careful not to smear the autograph!

This is one of my favorite Rodney Crowell songs, and he sings it with Emmylou Harris who IS my all-time favorite female singer (tied with Alanis Morissette)! (Unfortunately Emmylou wasn't at the concert and they didn't sing this particular song.)

This was one Rodney Crowell did sing at the concert!

If you aren't familiar with Rodney Crowell himself, I'm sure you are familiar with some of his songs. He wrote Keith Urban's Making Memories of Us which hit number one on the charts and was a song I considered using in my wedding.)

My Morning Jacket

Last Thursday night, Nathan and I attended a concert at Red Rocks (near Denver) with our friends Nate and Liz. We saw My Morning Jacket (& The Black Keys) and we had a great time! We didn't get home until after 1 am and I was up at 6 am getting ready for work. It has been a long time since I have stayed out so late on a "school night" and as a result of my late night, I have spent the weekend recovering! I took a three hour nap yesterday, even after going to bed early on Friday night. It's times like these that I feel every bit of my 32 years. Nathan took a couple of pictures on his cell phone. They aren't the greatest, but here we are enjoying ourselves at the concert...

Here's the music video of one of my favorite My Morning Jacket songs....
