2013 Memory Jar #59

-written by Nathan

At lunch I was talking on the phone to Ryan about finding temporary help for Pa.  He needed a draftsperson to draw some plans for a house in Black Forest.  When I hung up, Jack said, "Who was that?"

"Ryan," I said.

I explained, "He wants to help Pa find somebody to draw some house plans.  When somebody builds a house, they need someone to draw a really, really good drawing that tells them everything they need to know about how to build it."

In a proud, confident tone, as if it's the one question he needed answered before he could get started, "Crayon or marker?"

2013 Memory Jar #58

-written by Nathan

After talking about it for a few months, our family was finally able to do some Facetime with Cass & Sarah's family on the iPad.  After a brief conversation including a Thomas the Tank Engine reference that made Jack and Jacob smile, we closed the session, and the image on the screen went dark.  Jack said, "I wanna watch that one again!"

Two days later....
Without prompting, Jack said we should include Jacob while we were saying our prayers.

2013 Memory Jar #57

-written by Nathan

Today was the first full day of Marika being back at work.  Last year on the first full day of me being home with both babies, Jack said to Juliana, "I like you!"  They were just sitting on the floor when he said it.  It was memorable on the first day of me taking care of two children by myself.  This year, the memorable quote was one from Jack as he stood in front of Juliana.  She was scooting on the kitchen floor, and he was holding his hand in front of her mouth saying, "Spit it out!"

Marika:  "I'm making back-to-school cookies!"

Jack:  "No!  No!  I don't want you to!"

Marika:  "You don't want me to make back-to-school cookies?"

Jack:  "No.  I want you to make home cookies!"

2013 Memory Jar #55

After years of intending to copy the cassette called "Baby Talk" (the hand-written title Mommy Sue gave it) to a digital/CD format, I finally did it and gave copies to Mommy Sue and Lauren.
