Mother's Day Craft

Our first grade team of teachers put their heads together and scrounged up donations and was able to send every single first grader home with this adorable poem, a picture of their child eating a muffin, AND.... (drum roll please) a pound of coffee from Starbucks! I thought it was such a cute idea and whipped up a few (littler) treats for some of my favorite local mothers. Check it out....

If You Give A Mom A Muffin
If you give a mom a muffin,
she'll want a cup of coffee to go with it.
She'll pour herself some.
Her 3-year-old will spill the coffee.
She'll wipe it up.
Wiping the floor, she will find dirty socks.
She'll remember she has to do laundry.
When she puts the laundry in the washer,
she'll trip over boots and bump into the freezer.
Bumping into the freezer will remind her she has to plan supper.
She will get out a pound of hamburger.
She'll look for her cookbook
(101 Things to Make With a Pound of Hamburger.)
The cookbook is sitting under a pile of mail.
She will see the phone bill, which is due tomorrow.
She will look for her checkbook.
The checkbook is in her purse that is being dumped out by her 2-year-old.
She'll smell something funny.
She'll change the 2-year-old.
While she is changing the 2-year-old the phone will ring.
Her 5-year-old will answer it and hang up.
She'll remember that she wants to phone a friend to come for coffee.
Thinking of coffee will remind her that she was going to have a cup.
She will pour herself some.
And chances are, if she has a cup of coffee,
her kids will have eaten the muffin that went with it.

A Sense of Accomplishment

With some help from Nathan and a bottle of Pinot Grigio, I have finally completed two major projects... purging the house of our unused belongings to donate to the church yard sale, and completing Lindsay's wedding invitations! Those are two BIG tasks that I can cross off my summer to-do list.

Collecting items for the yard sale has involved spring cleaning the house (this, unfortunately, cannot yet be crossed off the summer to-do list with the kitchen and guest room remaining to be cleaned). Nathan helped me price the items last night and we hauled them to the church in the rain this morning before Nathan headed to work. As you can see, we made a decent contribution (and the house just feels cleaner and more organized getting the stuff out of here)!

I have had Lindsay's wedding invitations mostly completed for a few days but there was one little bitty problem- the yellow ribbon. So, yesterday was a bit of a ribbon saga for me. I had not been able to find more of the same ribbon I used on the first invitations that I made (and that ribbon had been approved by the bride). In fact, I roamed the city (Hobby Lobby, Walmart, and Michaels) to find the right ribbon. Nothing. I wasn't even able to find enough yellow ribbon of any type at to keep all the invitations consistent and so the invitations were made with not one kind of ribbon...

not two kinds of ribbon....

not even three kinds of ribbon...

BUT FOUR DIFFERENT TYPES OF RIBBON!!!!

Hopefully, when my sister sees them, she will still let me be a bridesmaid and, more importantly, her sister.

This Weekend

I love making cards! These are for my sister's bridal shower. It's still two months away, but I was too excited to wait! After two trips to Hobby Lobby and many hours of work yesterday, they are finished! Lindsay's colors are "sunflower" yellow and "grass" green so these will be put into green envelopes to send out. I am very excited about her colors because they are not pink and brown (which I am still seeing everywhere I go) and it means I get to wear a green dress in the wedding! Making the shower invitations was good practice for me since I will be making her wedding invitations and they are quite similar.
